A Modest Proposal PDF is basically the Juvenalian satirical essay of Jonathan Swift. It was originally published in the English language in 1729. A prime example of restoration satire is in Jonathan Swift’s a modest proposal, a little background on Swift. He was an Irishman in the Catholic but also a royalist. Which meant he was loyal to the crown of England. He was not, however, a fan of how England was running things in Ireland particularly when it came to the vast amount of poverty plaguing the country.
In 1729, Swift wrote the satirical essay “A Modest Proposal”. In this essay, Swift proposes that the Irish should eat their own babies in order to deal with a large number of poor people. He makes several statements about the benefits of a Duke babies. He says it will create overall economic growth less than the number of abortions and finally give the Irish something of value their children.
Now since his essays satirical the eating babies part is meant to be taken literally. So if two Sangli sings to draw attention to the poor living conditions of the Irish. We’re so impoverished that the idea of eating a baby almost sounds reasonable in the essay.
Swift says, “therefore I repeat let no man talk to me of these in the like expedience till he asked at least some glimpse of hope that there will ever be some hearty and sincere attempt to put them into practice”. [Source] Basically, he says not to even mention the alternative CD Davies. Because the politically powerful and the wealthy just aren’t going to listen.
Swift’s proposal is a perfect example of what satire is. It contains wit and sarcasm by suggesting that the Irish eat their own babies. But overall its purpose is to expose England’s reluctance to relieve the Irish of their economic burdens.
